Thecharactersfrom01h(1)to0Fh(15)areenteredbyholdingdownthe CTRLkeyandpressingthe‘A’(01h)through‘O’(0Fh)keys,respectively. Thecharactersfrom10h(16)through1Fh(31)andtheextendedASCII characters,from7Fh(127)toB8h(184)areenteredbyholdingdowntheALT keyandtypinginthedecimalnumberofthedesiredcharacteronthenumeric keypad. YoucanhavetheCurrentTimeandDate,ElapsedTimervalues,andLocal andIndexedEDitemvaluesinsertedanywhereintheMessagetextthrough theuseofothercontrolcodesequences.ForCurrentandElapsedTime values,youspecifytheformatoftheinsertedvalueswithaformatcode sequence,whichspecifiesthetimevaluesyouwanttoinclude. ForMessagetextthatistransmittedovertheSerialPort,suchasforthe MDSUNITandTRANSMITMessagedestinations,youcanforcetheunitto runadditionalTransmitDelaysatspecificpointsintheMessagetransmission byinsertingtheTRXDELAY( t-<ALT-T>)controlcodeanywhereinthe Messagetext. Youenteracontrolcodebypressingtheappropriateletterkeywhile holdingdowntheALTkey.Allcontrolcodesaredisplayedastwo-letter sequencescomprisedofthediamond( )characterfollowedbythe lower-caseletterofthekeyyoupressed.Atableofthevariouscontrolcodes, theirusage,andfunctionisincludedlaterinthissection. YoucaninsertanynumberofblinkingfieldsintheMessagetextby surroundingthedesiredtextcharacterswiththeBLINKcontrolcode.For instance,toinstructtheADI/MDItoblinktheword“Blink”inaMessage,you mustentertheBLINKcontrolcode,“ b”,byholdingdowntheALTkeyand pressingthe‘B’key.The“ b”sequenceappearsatthecursorlocationinthe MessageTextarea.Typein“Blink”followedbyanotherALT-Bcontrol code.Thesequenceappearsonthescreenas“ bBlink b”.Theunitblinks thecharacterssandwichedbetweenthetwoBLINKcontrolcodeswheneverit displaystheMessage. Certaincontrolcodesrequirethatyouenteratwo-digitnumber immediatelyfollowingthem.Forinstance,youwouldinsertLocalEDItem1 intheMessagetextbyincludingthesequence“ d01”atthedesiredlocation inthetext.The“ d”sequenceisthecontrolcodeforaLocalEDItemand “01”specifiesLocalitem1.WhentheADI/MDIencountersthissequence,it replacesthe“ d01”charactersequencewiththecurrentvalueofLocalED Item1.YouwouldinsertIndexedItem95intheMessagetextsimilarlywith thesequence“ i95”. WheninsertingaCurrentTimeorElapsedTimevalueintheMessagetext, youmustalsospecifytheformatofthetimefield.Theformatcodesusedto specifyCurrentandElapsedTimevaluesarecomprisedoftwo-letter upper-casecharactersequences.Eachformatcodesequencedescribesa particulartimevalue,suchastheCurrentYEAR,theCurrentMONTH,the ElapsedMINUTES,etc.Atableofthevariousformatcodes,theirusage,and functionisincludedlaterinthissection. Youstringtheseformatcodestogethertocreateatimefieldofyour choosingandindicatethebeginningandendingofthefieldwiththe appropriatecontrolcode.Forinstance,youwouldinserttheCurrentHours, Minutes,andSecondsinaMessagebyincludingthesequence “ cHH:NN:SS c”.The“ c”sequenceisthecontrolcodeforaCurrent Timefieldandthe“HH”,“NN”,and“SS”sequencesaretheHOURS, MINUTES,andSECONDSformatcodes,respectively. -32-
