He chose GE F25T12, “the T8 lamp in the T12 shape,” to solve his problem. Paul evaluated the latest in lighting technology and then set up a four cubicle test area in the open office environment of their 176,000 square foot building — to try out his options. Based on the results, he installed 5,000 new F25T12 lamps and 2,500 GE high-performance electronic ballasts, replacing the existing 34-watt T12/magnetic ballast system. As a HP facilities engineer, Paul has an ongoing concern about annual energy increases. His new system has cut energy use 38%, saving over $20,000 each year. And the GE F25T12s maintain previous light levels while using only .84 watts-per-square-foot.In addition, the energy responsible retrofit netted HP a $20,000 rebate from the power company.
