Rotating vanes orimpellers in the meters trap a volume of gasentering the meters. The vanes turn anddeliver the fixed volume of gas to theexhaust side of the meter. The gas must beable to flow through the meters with aminimum amount of resistance in order to bemetered accurately. The resistance to flow ismeasured as a differential pressure (between0.1” H20 and 2.0” H20) from the inlet to theoutlet of the meters. Contamination of the rotating vanes, measuring chamber, gears, or bearings willincrease the resistance to rotation and significantly reduce the accuracy of themetering accuracy. Resistance to rotationalso increases the differential pressure acrossthe meter. This can be measured todetermine if the meter needs to be repaired. Due to the rotation of the vanes, pulsatingpressure makes this a difficult measurementto determine. Analog gauges bounce andhave poor resolution. They are not adequatefor test purposes. A digital manometereliminates these problems. Pulsation isdampened by averaging pressuremeasurements at rates that can be set from0.1 seconds up to 25 seconds depending onthe needs of the application. Resolution to0.01” H20 takes care of any remainingreading errors. |
